Description

Carl Adolf Hoyer (1840-1914) was born to a dynasty of luthiers and learned bow making from his father, Christian Friedrich Hoyer. He established an independent workshop in 1865 that grew to be the largest in Markneukirchen, and which produced both a wide range of models and various levels of quality. The workshop continued to operate under the leadership of his son, Carl Willy Hoyer until 1945.

This German nickel and ebony mounted violin bow was made for Ernst Heinrich Roth for export and sale with their violins by the workshop of C.A. Hoyer under the leadership of Willy Hoyer prior to WWII. Estimated, between 1915 and 1935. A modest but well playing stick finished with a two-toned silk lapping and black lizard leather thumb grip with a final balanced weight of 59 grams.
